Africa's Preferred Destination for Business Process Outsourcing
Uganda’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry is on the cusp of significant growth, driven by a well-defined policy framework, a favorable investment climate, and a strong commitment to talent development and infrastructure enhancement.
These factors position Uganda as a rising destination for outsourcing services in Africa.
With a thriving IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) sector, Uganda is a premier destination attracting both local and international players across key industries such as finance, healthcare, telecom, e-Government, and agriculture.
As a preferred outsourcing destination, Uganda offers cost-effective solutions, a highly skilled workforce, and a supportive policy environment.
DeepTech Centre of Excellence
To accelerate Uganda’s transition into the New Economy, the Science, Technology, and Innovation–Office of the President (STI-OP) Secretariat established and operationalized the DeepTech Centre of Excellence.
This strategic initiative aims to strengthen Uganda’s DeepTech ecosystem and drive its Industry 4.0 transformation. Through significant investments in research, innovation, and technology development and transfer, the Centre seeks to foster innovation, enhance productivity, and accelerate the adoption of science, technology, and innovation (STI) as key drivers of industrialization and economic diversification.
With a flagship physical site in Namanve, a suburb of Kampala, the DeepTech Centre of Excellence is a state-of-the-art facility designed to advance cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, Biotechnology, Advanced Materials, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Edge Computing, and Quantum Computing. The Centre’s launch also featured the unveiling of the Local Electronics Manufacturing Facility, implemented by Lwera Semiconductors, and showcased groundbreaking innovations from Ugandan DeepTech pioneers, including Innovex, Kaara Energy, and Tech Anatomy.
Key initiatives at the DeepTech Centre include the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Business Process Outsourcing initiative, an AI studio to support Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in adopting AI technologies for improved service delivery, and a DeepTech Venture Studio to empower innovators in building world-class ventures. Additionally, the Centre hosts a local data repository and exchange program, along with initiatives focused on commercializing academic research and fostering corporate venture capital.
